Only for the week: Part 39

All songs on this segment are gathered in a Spotify playlist, you can find it here

The Classic: Dio - Rainbow In The Dark

You know you have made it when you can sing about rainbows, and still sound as metal as ever. Ronnie James Dio initially did not want this song on the "Holy Diver" record, claiming it was too poppy, but the band members persuaded him to keep it, and the rest is history. A fantastic song that gives the album another edge, with a catchy chorus, some epic keyboard, and some amazing guitar work from Vivian Campbell. Oh, and Dio himself of course, the little man with the mighty voice. Still miss you dude.

The Newcomer: Testament - Brotherhood of The Snake

Check out my review of the album this song is from, "Brotherhood of The Snake"

Well, what can I say, I am a sucker for pure powerful thrash candy. Testament never fails to deliver a delicious and heavy thrash sandwich to the people, and shoving it down our ear drums. The title track from the new album is just how you want it to be. It is fast, heavy, and contains some amazing performances from the entire band, from the vocals of Chuck Billy and the drumming of Gene Hoglan, to the twin guitar attack of Alex Skolnick and Eric Peterson. It is Testament, you do not have to explain more.

The Personal Favourite: Evile - Origin of Oblivion

There was a short period when thrash metal saw a bunch of new bands rised up and literally took over the scene. One of those bands were Evile, a British band that got some huge recognition with the song "Thrasher" from the debut "Enter The Grave" from 2007, a song that was very popular in Rock Band. However, my personal favourite from the band comes from the third album, "Five Serpent's Teeth" and the song "Origin of Oblivion", pure thrash candy that has one simple goal, running you over and then put in the reverse. The Drake brothers pummels on with furious riffing and insane solos, and together with the impeccable rhythm performance from Ben Carter and Mike Alexander, this song has the potential to decapitate some heads.

Stay Metal!
