So, we are already in October. God damn, this year is going waaaaaaaaay too fast.
Anyway, Halloween is upon us, and like the original bastard I am, I have decided that I am gonna do a series review of a famous horror movie franchise every year from now on, and maybe even throw in a newer horror movie review here and there. So, which franchise is first up? Too early to tell you yet, you all have to wait patiently. In the mean time, check out which songs I have chosen for this week's Only for the week. That should chew away some time at least.

The Classic: Children of Bodom - Bodom After Midnight
The death metal scene has taken some crazy twists and turns over the years, but one of the sharpest was done by some Finns during the 90's. Children of Bodom build upon the classic death metal sound with loud, melodic guitars that shredded your mind apart, and keyboard solos that just blew away what was left. "Bodom After Midnight" is the ultimate representation for the band, a fast, catchy, and extremely fun track that really stands out among the crowd. Now a days it might only work as a gateway drug for the heavier bands, but man, it is still really addictive stuff right here.
The Newcomer: Opeth - Chrysalis
Without spoiling all too much for my coming review, I felt like "Sorceress" was not up to the typical Opeth standard, but there is still some magic in here. "Chrysalis" is mysterious, a intriguing song that draws you in with its groovy rhythm, close to frightening keyboard melodies, and a drive that is mighty impressive. It may not have any true metal elements in it, but it is Opeth to the core, delivering music that is true to the band's present and past. In other word, a killer song.
The Personal Favourite: Anubis Gate - Never Like This (A Dream)
Okay, it may seem strange that I chose a very straight forward song from one of the more prominent progressive metal bands from Denmark, but man, this song is just THAT good. Taken from the 2014 album "Horizons", "Never Like This (A Dream)" shows just about every strengths that Anubis Gate possesses. The clean riffs from Olesen and Bodin, the enchanting vocals from Fevre, and a hauntingly beautiful keyboard solo that is not complicated at all, but incredibly fitting. But it is the chorus that just takes my breath away every time. It is so catchy and so unique that I still catch myself humming to its infectious melody. So god damn awesome.
Oh, and do not forget to check out the longer, follow up song from the same album "A Dream Within A Dream", a slower song that is just as magical. While you are at it, listen to the rest of the album as well :P
